An intrepid, wild-at-heart Englishman.
In 2014, I adventured coast to coast across the USA, with just $6 a day for 6 months. I raised money for a wildlife conservation charity. In 2015, I spent 4 months in the back of a truck with a pensioner; driving from New York City to Alaska, dipping our toes in the Arctic Ocean, travelling the entire length of the Alaska Pipeline and exploring the West coast.
I travelled further through Central and East Asia, Australasia, Brazil, the UAE, plenty of Europe, and some of North Africa. I have travelled to every continent except the Antarctic. The UK was home. Now it isn’t.
I co-founded a successful safari company next to Lake Malawi. Up to 2023, my work kept me relatively in one place – exactly where I love to be…on the road, all around Sub Saharan Africa.
Covid, Brexit, political corruption, and the unforgivable behavior of a few individuals lead to some trauma, heartbreak, and a couple of ongoing legal battles. I was forced to pack up my business, move continents, and seek some therapy and guidance. I think I lost elements of my personality that I doubt I’ll ever get back. I have found it impossible to be creative since. I haven’t painted, and since leaving Africa, my writing has dried up.
In 2025 I reached out to my large African network, and instead of turning my back on the continent that I felt had been amputated from me, and I set up a new business in Kenya, with a new partner – Go Into Travel. We create and deliver bespoke holidays across sub Saharan Africa. It keeps me focussed and passionate about the places, experiences and wilderness I love, and for a little while each year, I get to be there.
I used to write things down while I observed the world; sometimes my lifestyle, an interest in topical issues, and always heartfelt admiration for the wilderness that never ceases to amaze me. I began writing to keep charitable people up to date. The more I wrote, the more my adventures grew. I used to write simply because I enjoyed it.
I sacrificed my gregarious London lifestyle, a promising, prosperous career, and some close “friends” who thought I was insane to make such a dramatic life-change. I needed to kick the mundane career and city life to the kerb. I was asked if I was psychologically unwell. At the time, I knew I was quickly becoming so.
Whatever “Normal” is, it isn’t something I have ever embraced. Although hard work, I am hugely privileged and often humbled to have been able to challenge society’s pre-arranged expectations. I had plenty of adventurous spirit and courage from an unknown origin. I now feel I have a lot more in the tank.
I am not writing a travel blog. I won’t be giving anyone advice on what to see or how to get around. I’m not requesting anyone follow me on some “inspirational” journey. For the most part, it’s been an exhausting challenge, but that’s where I find the reward.
I’m writing a book about my first American adventure – with some juicy details I had to leave out while I was actually on it. I’m optimistic about writing again – as well as finding my next adventure, after such a turbulent few years.
If you’re curious about a holiday in Africa, reach out. I’ve been delivering trips across a dozen countries for years.
