The last you saw of me was when I left Portland, OR. They even had a new carpet in the airport!
Time to let you all know what in the world I’ve been up to on the African continent. Malawi to be precise.
Strewn all over the editing table, my notes and tidbits are on their way…
Welcome to the next adventure…
Being 6’3″ has its advantages. I can change light bulbs without ladders, reach top shelf merchandise, I’m advantaged in certain sports, I’m a giant in Asia, and I can hit smoke alarms on the ceiling without using an old snooker cue on the sad occasions when bacon is burnt. However, what I can’t do as an averagely tall person is sleep on aeroplanes. Sitting with swollen, half closed eyes, like a hungover mole after losing a bar brawl, on the last leg of my four flights, totalling just over 48 hours so far of travel from Portland OR to Lilongwe in Malawi, I’m hopeful in my hazy state that my expeditions in Malawi will be another solid leap towards my final life-goal in a year or two – something which I have been a little candid over but possibly because the end point is definitely not a fixed ideal.. Things are going in the right direction though, and life is taking me to Africa.
I’m about to land in Lilongwe (Malawi’s capital) and I know it’s going to be a very different experience from the first time I came here. Now, I’m without my streetwise sister who I know is envious of me being here, and this time, I’m not on holiday.. Eager to get there after 50 hours of travel from the west coast of the U.S. and eager to rest my legs on a bed that I can barely fit on. I will inevitably be pushing my feet into some bug proof netting as I sweat myself into a pool of fluid that a decent sized muskrat could swim in, but I’m still excited. Ultimately right now, I’m hankering for a huge gin and to feel the African sun on my face again. Hopefully, there’ll be someone at the airport to meet me. I last heard from my contact in the bush over a week ago…
I’ll be in Malawi for roughly two months. With a couple of personal projects in the pipeline, the possibilities that could present themselves are currently unknown, but I’m excited to get stuck in like a dog with his nose in a rabbit hole. Time for another adventure…
